Bryce

bryce is a short hop away from zion. the hoo-doos are the best i’ve ever seen. did quick hike into the canyon, the trail dropped about 500′, which meant that it had to rise about 500′ to regain the canyon lip. while hiking up the 500′ i was amazed at how much air i was sucking in. my legs weren’t tired, i wasn’t tired, and yet, i kept sucking in the air at a much greater rate than i should have been. then i realized that the elevation of bryce at this point was nearly 9,000′ — no wonder it seemed i was starved for oxygen, it was because i was starved for oxygen!

that night i stayed in the bryce campground. while there i couldn’t quite figure out why my hands were getting quite cold while i was reading. the next morning my thermometer showed it had gotten to 15 degrees that night. the other amazing thing about that stay was that the toilet building was heated! the only other place i can remember that being the case was in jasper.
