NZ has a hell of a problem with introduced species of mammals. mostly because there were no "large" mammals to start with. foxes, feral cats, weasels, etc. all work together to devastate the indigenous birds and plants. so, they are either trapping or poisoning various habitats in an attempt to eliminate the problem.

NZ crime rate is very very low, especially violent crime. however, they have had a huge problem with petty theft in many of the parks. so you'll sometimes find these guys parked at the head of a trail. and for $2 they will watch your car or bike.
