Elephants and baobab trees in Tarangire NP. During times of drought the baobab tree drops all it’s leaves after sucking the water back into its trunk. The tree is fibrous rather than woody. The elephants take advantage is this by tearing huge holes into the trees to get at the fiber and water. During times of plenty the elephants love the leaves. So, you never see a baobab tree with branches shorter than the largest elephant can reach.
