Indian RR Station

by BDK

Made my way from Bandhavgarh National Park to Kahna National Park. Moving from point A to point B in India is always an adventure. Today started with a car hire to get me to Katni RR station. Two and a half hours of dodging oncoming vehicles, bicycles, chickens, cows, goats, toddlers, goats with coats, dogs and massive potholes.
Indian rail stations can be a mass of confusion. The Katni station is small enough to avoid that for the most part.
My train from Katni to Jabulpur was supposed to leave at 9:20. We left at 10:05—not bad by Indian RR standards. Shared a compartment with a couple of families with little girls. Very nice people and fun to talk with. Two hours later the train stopped. Then it was another car hire ride, this time 4 hours, to my “resort” outside Kahna Park.

The station at Kahna. It’s a small stop so not very crowded and you could actually find employees to ask questions. The larger stations can be beyond chaotic. Ya can’t believe the things you see—cows, kids, random people wandering down the middle of the tracks; men, women, kids taking a piss right there at the platform on the tracks; the occasional rat; trash just dumped on the ground; people of all ages sleeping on the concrete; and on and on. It can all be very confusing for the outsider.
