There are signs of aging. But there is a skilled set of craftsman who perform repairs as needed. Evidently the fellows doing the work today are directly descended from those who did the original work. It’s the 17th generation. They keep all their methods of doing things, including the recipe for the glue and mortar secret. Only the male heirs are told, as females, once married, join the husband’s family.
