Had a ticket for something else but then discovered a piano recital at the MUPA. So opted for the MUPA instead. The recital was to include Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn which I’ve never heard live.
The place was nearly sold out but there were a few tickets left in the choir behind the stage. Never sat in a choir seat before but figured it was worth a go.
Was shocked when they opened the doors and discovered the seat wasn’t in the choir, it was ON the stage behind the piano. Furthermore I was in the end of the last row with no other seats in front of me. Thankfully they dropped the lights and only the piano was spotted.
800 pairs of eyes — where was my Chicken Air t-shirt when I needed it most? Luckily I was wearing my best black “dress” t-shirt and REI cargo pants. I fit right in.

During intermission folks came on stage to look at the piano. Weird.
Euro applause. It’s weird. They start applauding just like in the States but then after a period of time they transition to this. The change is subtle at first, but then it quickly takes over.
The MUPA — a fantastic hall and programming. They’ve got something going on almost every night and family/kids stuff during weekend matinees.
