Churchill’s idiotic decision to land troops at Gallipoli was probably his greatest blunder. There’s truth and then there is ground truth. More times than not even the greatest effort by soldiers can’t get past ground truth. The Union learned this at Fredicksburg. The Confederates learned that with Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. Learned should really be in quotes. Too often what is learned by way of spilt blood is quickly forgotten.
All one need to do is walk the ground at Gallipoli to realize the stupidity of an attack there.
Between both sides, 500,000 casualties with over 100,000 of them being dead.
Not sure Australia and New Zealand have ever quite forgiven that decision.

Subtle, huh?
