yosemite — quite the place.
proof that at least my truck made it there. (El Capitan in the background, some background...)
so, i go into the local store in yosemite and who should be doing a book signing? Royal Robbins! few of you know who this guys is, do a google. i couldn't believe it, got two of his books and here he is signing one of them.

"grizzly giant" — 2,500 to 3,000 years old. the first horizontal branch on the right of the tree is 7 feet in diameter—again, the branch is SEVEN FEET in diameter.

having little else to do one morning i clumbed El Capitan before breakfast. here i am right after my return to the bottom, slightly after lunch. El Capitan is 3,000' from the base to the top. there are at least two teams of climbers on the rock when this pic was taken, but those guys are way too small to easily see with a rock face this large.
