a hop and a jump will take one from yosemite to death valley. hard to appreciate the change that this brings in climate and scene. probably would be better appreciated if one had walked along a wagon to get there.
death valley has lots of these...rocks.

hiked to some dunes not too far from the road. looked pretty desolate.

the lowest spot in the U.S. —> 282' below sea level.
mars? death valley is the hottest place on earth. (winter time is the right time to visit! day time temps in the 60s and 70s.)
