It’s my last night in Hong Kong before I head to Melbourne. I’m staying at my normal hotel, The Island Pacific, and am sound asleep when the room phone rings.
It’s hotel security informing me that there are two policemen downstairs that want talk with me and that I need to bring my passport.
Still asleep it seems, I start getting dressed and get the passport out of the room safe. As I gradually reach consciousness I begin to think that something is fishy.
This isn’t high school. If the cops wanted to talk with me they’d have come directly to the room. So, I call the front desk.
No cops. They’ll put my phone on “incognito.”
So, prank call? A couple thugs waiting for me in the hallway? Who knows. Either way, sleep wasn’t great for the rest of the night.
Lesson? Always awaken before doing anything.
