before leaving new zealand i went to the national museum in auckland. interesting place. had the longest canoe i’ve ever seen. also had a good deal on maori culture.
the maori are on interesting group of indigenous people. unlike most “natives” the maori were never actually beaten on the battlefield. as a result their culture is still very strong, as least as compared to the vast majority of native peoples. there is a maori television station and maori people are seen throughout, most predominantly in the north island. this stands in great contrast to the aboriginals of australia.

nice canoe.

huge canoe. i forget how long, 100' maybe?

every museum needs a jap zero...

hillary's ice axe, which he used on the everest climb.

but, the NZ museum has a V-1, i don't understand.
