I spent an hour last week in a small adobe church on the approach to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and it was a lovely, personal, and intimate experience. The decorations and furnishings were simple, to honor God. The whole collaborated to make the setting one of the memorable mind scapes that lingers for long afterwards. I’m not religious, but the experiece was calming and rewarding – easily one of the nicest experiences on the road trip. Notre Dame’s scale elicits a sense of “Oh, wow”. Sante Fe’s adobe church made me think, “Oh, my”. “
