I Did That…

by BDK

So, last year I attended a concert at Cadogan Hall. Its an old place–big surprise–narrow staircases, narrow doors, handrails on only 1 side of the stairs, no sprinkler system, etc. All in all a bit of fire trap.

The exit doors had these ancient panic bars installed that didn’t even appear to work. So, I write an email to the hall management and cc the London Fire Brigade. The hall writes back that their staff is fully trained in emergency procedures, nothing to see here, move along. I respond that the whole purpose of panic bars is that their operation should require no staff. That the only thing older than the door hardware is the average age of most of their patrons and odds of that geriatric audience being able sort out how to use the doors is as long as the line of dead bodies that will be recovered following the fire.

A year later I returned to Cadogan Hall and what do I see?!? Yep! New panic bars on all the doors.

I am truly a force for good in the modern world!

I’m expecting a call from buckingham palace any day…
